Synopsis

ROA:Access is a live magazine and music show running in segments throughout the Rave On Air Schedule. The show will be split into two separate locations: The Magazine Show, based on the front lawn, will feature interviews, event scheduling, and ‘making of’ VT’s. Our roving presenter will also provide us with “behind the scenes” looks at various other live events throughout the day, as well as interviews with guests and delegates. The music location, entitled Access:Live, which is based in the SU, will be solely focused on musical performances, featuring innovative and creative musical talent, offering an eclectic mix of music throughout the day.

Jason Smith - Producer
Andy Yates - Producer
Our ‘unplugged’ music stage will also be featured out on the front lawn, with exclusive ‘stripped back’, acoustic and raw performances from our bands and artists. This will be the perfect place to be if you want to listen to great live music and have a drink outside in the glorious sunshine (fingers crossed!).

As well as live music, we’ll be showing some pre-recorded studio sessions throughout the day, which were recorded ‘as live’ in Ravensbourne’s studios during April and May. We hope that as well as bringing another element to our show, these will also highlight our crew’s skill in the studio environment, as well as our outdoor venues.

The Bands
Rajko
“Rajko is a London born singer/songwriter with a delicate but distinctive musical touch. Having toured independently and performed at some of the finest acoustic venues in the UK and USA, he is a talented and captivating performer who connects with his audience through his gentle honesty and positive sentiment. He recorded the debut album ‘Poor as a Church Mouse’ under his own record label and is now touring and performing songs from this album in the UK and Europe”.

Rubylux
“With a vast array of influences, Rubylux have set their sights on making their own mark on the music scene. As dedicated songwriters they value a pop hook, strong melody and big chorus leaving the impression of longevity with everyone that hears them. The summer ‘07 Rubylux took to the streets… They were sending over 300 people home with a CD after each impromptu street performance, each time gaining bigger crowds. The band have hugely expanded their fanbase, and have even gained ad synchs in Europe, America, Asia and Australia. With a new live show, many new songs and studio time in the pipeline, sights have been firmly set ahead and expectations high…”

Hannah Scott & John Carden
“Hannah Scott has been writing music and lyrics since her early teens, but it was a year spent in Tuscany as part of her degree that inspired her to start writing and performing more seriously. Returning home, the strength and maturity of Hannah’s songwriting and her distinctive voice immediately caught the attention of BBC Radio Suffolk’s Stephen Foster who helped produce her debut album, “Till angels fall”, alongside well-known local musicians such as Mark Flanagan (Jools Holland). Released in 2007, the album has gained airplay on Radio 2 as well as becoming a regular choice on local BBC stations.”

A chance meeting through mutual friends brought Hannah and John Carden together in early 2008. Combining their talents as singers, guitarists and pianists, they have been performing as a duo since October 2008. In March 2009 they released “Falling into spring”, a collection of new songs which is faithful to their live sound. Having attracted interest from EMI Publishing’s Head of A&R, Kenny McGoff, supported folk favourites Cara Dillon and Megson and headlined London venues such as The Hope & Anchor, the duo are rapidly increasing their fan base with their passionate live shows.

Perfect People
If you were to plot a line from The Kinks, through Squeeze, Elvis Costello and Blur you would find yourself face to face with Perfect People. Built around talents of frontman and songwriter Stefan Abingdon, Perfect People have the songs, the savvy and the ambition to match.

Stefan is still only 20, but a misspent youth playing in bands and honing his writing skills have given him a confidence beyond his years. Equally comortable on guitar, sampler, keyboard or even ukulele, Perfect People's songs are born in Stefan's west London bedroom but are brought to life live with the help of Jake Shortall (keyboards, vocals) Sam Wilkinson (bass, vocals) and Dru Wakely (drums).

Formed at the end of 2008, in a few short months Perfect People have turned more than a few heads with their hi-octane live shows. Come and see for yourself at one of their forthcoming gigs.

Our Aims
Our key aim is to integrate the many aspects of the college, bringing together the skills that Ravensbourne has to offer, giving delegates a better insight into the entire Rave On Air package - highlighting creativity and talent from initial concept right through to transmission.

Rave On Air : Access is promising to be the most exciting and entertaining show to watch and to work on within the whole Rave On Air schedule with something for everyone.

Jason Smith –"I’m really looking forward to the live show and so excited about the content. I’ve found it tough to produce a whole 2 hour live show but I’m enjoying it immensely. I’ve learnt so much about Producing, and still learning I might add, and I’ve learnt so much about myself, my strengths, my weaknesses, my loves and my hates. I know I will be eternally grateful for this opportunity and I know I will be hugely proud of everyone who is involved in creating & developing Rave On Air : Access."

Andrew Yates – "This production has been such an enlightening and challenging experience. I have learnt so much about the many elements of the production process, and has given me a real taste for more. To me, it has been such an exciting prospect, bringing together the many talent bases that the college has to offer, from engineers, to graphics and interior designers, and utilising these skills to create the best programmes we can. We’ve got a fantastic crew working on this production, who are really excited and passionate the programme and it’s content."
